06.11.2000: Big news-update

Gemini Junior discontinued
The "small" Version Gemini Junior of the copybit-killer will not be produced any more, because more than 80 percent of the Geminis have been sold in the Standard version. For the low quantities, producing and stocking of the devices is not profitable. With the Junior version, CD-recorders by Philips and Marantz were still able to identify a copy, although the Gemini was active. The Standard version also removes that extended copy-protection.

Gemini with coax-input available
Just in time for the Christmas business, the Gemini with coax-input has passed CE approval. The Gemini Standard with an electrical instead of an optical input is shipping now.

New Gemini power supplies for free
Between February 2000 and August 2000, some defective power supplies have been shipped in Germany. Those PSUs stop working after a few hours of operation. If you send your old power supply to us, it'll be exchanged for free.

X-Surf revised
Since two weeks, a revised version of the X-Surf ethernet board is shipping. The changes are:

  • X-Surf ist now Draco-compatible
By changing a small detail in the Zorro-timing, proper function with Tower- and Cube-Draco systems is ensured.

  • Full performance with RBM OnBoard EX
The RBM OnBoard zorro expansion for the A1200 has an error in the XRDY handling. This error is now recognized and worked around by the X-Surf. Doing so, the X-Surf reaches the desired performance with the RBM Zorro-board. RBM boards have been sold especially in Canada by Randomize.

  • IDE-Timing improved
Quantum harddrives of the latest generation are not 100% ATA-X3T9 compliant, therefore the Fireball lct series did not work properly on the X-Surf. With a change in the IDE-timing, this problem has been solved.

  • Every "old" board can be updated with a simple change of a chip. The chip is 20,- DM each. If you do not own a chip-puller, your retail partner will help you updating if it's necessary. In most cases, exchanging the chip is not necessary, because the problems only arose in very uncommon setups.

Buddha Flash Gold Edition with 32K flash
Because of the Euro currency being continously weak against the US Dollar, the size of the flash memory on the Buddha Flash. controller had to be reduced to 32K. The initial plan was to use the extended memory for a mouse driver by an external company, so using a serial mouse in the early startup menu would have been possible. Since this driver has not been provided for months now, the reduction of memory is not a drawback for anybody. It's just the opposite: The price remains stable despite increased costs. The flash memory size of the Catweasel Z-II remains 64K.

    ISDN-Surfer gamma-test starting in week 46
During the week from November 13th to 17th, the gamma-test of the ISDN-Surfer will start. For this test, we're looking for Amiga-users with very special setups and ISDN phone lines that are NOT provided by Germany's Deutsche Telekom. Users who had problems with ISDN boards by other vendors before are also welcome to put the ISDN surfer to an especially hard test. After the short and therefore very successful beta-phase, proper function must be tested with uncommon setups. Gamma-testers only pay 150,- DM plus shipping and handling for the ISDN Surfer. If you want to register for the test, just send us an e-mail.

now for the best thing at the end...
Repulse sound board will be produced by individual Computers
After long negotiations, the contract with Aliendesign, the team that has developed the Repulse, has been finished. If we can collect enough pre-orders this month, production may even start this year. Although even the big players like Nokia and Ericsson talk about component shortage, all the necessary components will be available by mid-december. Please send your pre-order to one of our retail partners, they will collect them and send them to us.
